Our behavioral programs for youth in New Hampshire
Our behavioral programs for teens guide New Hampshire’s youth through each phase of their growth. Each student starts with focused care in our partial hospitalization program and then transitions to our intensive outpatient program. Once they leave treatment, our Aftercare helps them adjust to independence from the support system at Direction.
Partial hospitalization program (PHP)
Explore the PHPIf your teen requires more focused care than traditional therapy can provide, our partial hospitalization program (PHP) can give your teen the behavioral support you’ve been looking for. Our PHP is a short-term intensive program that provides structure and support while allowing your teen to live at home.
Through immersion in our positive group culture, we are able to treat your child with full psychiatric evaluations, group therapy, recreational activities, medication management, and more. Our PHP typically lasts two months, followed by a month of our intensive outpatient program.
Intensive outpatient program (IOP)
Explore the IOPOur intensive outpatient program (IOP) offers the same services as our PHP but with a smaller time commitment. The goal of the IOP is to give your child more time for school, home life, and work as we progress away from the PHP program and towards their regular schedule.
The IOP typically lasts one month, three hours a day instead of the PHP’s five. After your teen is discharged from IOP, they can return to their outpatient providers. If your family does not have an outpatient provider, we’ll help you look for one.
Aftercare
Explore AftercareWe’re here for your child even after they complete their program.
Once your teen has graduated from our intensive behavioral programs for young adults, they may need support transitioning to life away from the support system we provide. Our Aftercare program helps guide teens and their parents through the exciting and nerve-wracking process of ending their care.
Our flexible memberships allow you to choose your membership weekly, so your child can attend as often or as little as they need. Plus, we integrate our Aftercare program with our IOP, giving your teen as much clinical support as possible while providing a smooth transition.
What makes Direction Behavioral Health different?
Our programs empower troubled teens to function better as individuals and in society, recognizing their value and that of others. Backed by clinical research and expertise, we approach education holistically, focusing on your teen’s potential rather than their difficulties. It’s our goal for each kid to become confident, healthy members of their community.

Wholistic education — not simple behavior modification
We don’t want to hand your child a set of superficial coping mechanisms. Instead, we work with them to address the roots of their problems so they can thrive outside of our facilities. We’re more than a behavior modification program. Our holistic education maintains your teen’s dignity and self-respect while encouraging them to grow.
Students journey toward wellness in a fun, inviting facility
We believe in incorporating teens’ interests and hobbies into our treatment, creating a place for troubled youth to become healthy teenagers. Sprawling over 8,000 square feet and two levels, our facility features a basketball court, exercise equipment, a pickleball net, musical instruments, and more.
Clinical yet compassionate care
Led by Dr. Duncan Gill, child and adolescent psychiatrist, our team of clinicians has been hand-picked for their commitment to your teen’s development. Every one of our group counselors, therapists, and clinicians is dedicated to seeing your teen become an engaged and healthy member of society.
Two separate PHPs, one for children and one for teens
We help children + teen struggling with a variety of issues
Our teens come to us with a wide variety of troubles. Some of the conditions we treat include:
Help for parents & families, Too
When your teen is facing mental health challenges, it can affect the entire family. At Direction, we understand this, which is why we go beyond help for troubled teens—we’re here for their families, too. We provide parenting groups, valuable resources, and practical guides specifically designed for parents of troubled teens in New Hampshire and beyond. We aim to equip you with the tools and knowledge you need to help your child thrive and reach their full potential.
Parenting groups (in-person & virtual)
Supporting your teen through challenging times can be overwhelming, but you don’t have to face it alone. We offer both in-person and virtual parenting groups to empower and support parents as they navigate their teen’s journey. These groups provide a safe space to connect with other parents, share experiences, and learn practical strategies to help your child overcome their struggles.
